The Australian Bureau of Statistics has published data combined from the 2016 Australian Census and Temporary Entrants Integrated Dataset, that for the first time provides detailed information on the social and economic characteristics of temporary residents in Australia.
The data included information:
- Special Category SC 444 (NZ citizens) were the largest group of temporary residents in Australia
- Students were the second largest group of temporary residents
- Skilled working visas holders were the third largest group
- Over 60% of these temporary residents live in Sydney and Melbourne
